Street Spirit

Last week I was on holiday staying with a friend near Bath who has just started a cafe in a barn (Pipley Barn – highly recommended).

I noticed a print on their wall, the artist and the subject seemed very familiar to me.

Rows of houses, all bearing down on me.

It is by Stanley Donwood, the artist behind all Radiohead artwork, and is of a mythical Fleet Street drowning in an all encompassing flood.

It is called Fleet Street Apocalypse and was designed for sale to help the St Bride’s Institute, copies are still on sale there.

Amazingly my friends offered to sell it to me – they have a nomadic lifestyle often and were very happy for me to buy it, so it’s now on my wall, just about fitting in (it’s very large).

It is such an exciting thing for me to have, I am planning on creating a special Fleet Street Tour to cover all the locations listed.

See if you can work them out, here are detailed photos.

Here it is before we moved it to the hallway.

And lastly here is the letter of provenance that Charlie, the person who owned it previously, kindly gave me.
