The 325 year old Lady

A new exhibition at the Bank of England museum celebrates 325 years of its history in 325 objects, after it’s founding in 1694.

It’s a fantastic exhibition and I will put more photos up of it in later posts.

I was talking about this to a colleague at my office last night who used to work there – he remembers the 300th anniversary exhibition, and couldn’t believe how old it made him feel.

Highlights to me of the exhibition include:

Fake theatre money from 1951 reading “Bank of Magicians”

A “Titan” bank note from 2018 for £100,000000 used for internal bank accounting including as backing for other UK banknote issues.

This incredible relic, an original 1942 Bernhard note, forged under duress in concentration camps by German prisoners to undermine the allied war effort and depicted in the recent film “The Counterfeiters”. Up to £300,000,000 worth of forged notes may have been created.
