You may have noticed a theme of truth in my recent posts.
Here is another example of my hunt for Justice – literally in this case!
Tony Parsons, the former NME enfant terrible, husband of Julie Burchill and best-selling writer of “Man and Boy” also created the very popular “Max Wolfe” Crime novels set in London.
Reading a couple, one repeated fact jumped out at the page at me.
Here is an extract from “The Hanging Club” .
This second extract is from “Die Last”.
Now look at the photos below and tell me the schoolboy error.
Yes – the statue of Justice on top of the Old Bailey, the work of the famous Sculptor Frederick Pomeroy, is NOT blindfolded.
Being the irritating pedant that I am, I actually emailed Tony’s publishers – and to my surprise and his immense credit, here is his extremely kind reply.
Please note he even reassured me that I am not a pedant!
Dear David,
Thank you and you do not come across as a pedant –
I should not be making these kind of mistakes (though I suspect every novelist does – but that is no excuse).
I appreciate you writing to point out my error and I will try to get things right in the future.
Best,
Tony
Mind you I haven’t read any more of his books yet so I can’t be certain if he has kept his word…
