The Ten Towns and a dismal address

Found this delightful poem in Punch from 1858 marking Rowland Hill’s creation of the “Ten Towns” of the London postcode system.

I live in the dismal hole of SE ( similar to Holmes’ description of “the howling desert of South London” in the Sign of Four.)

The reference to Apsley P is the MP and glass manufacturer Apsley Pellatt.
